You can update just your metadata for institutional and/or public collections by using "metadata only" when your collection items are published on JSTOR. Prior to October 2021, the publishing process included media processing and was often load-intensive and time-consuming as a result. Now, re-publishing includes only the specific item metadata changes you wish to make for a faster, more efficient experience.
First, confirm that your collection is already mapped to JSTOR as a publishing target and published. When you begin to publish, the Target Type should appear in the modal before continuing to publish your item/s.
Once you have confirmed that JSTOR is selected as a target, check the checkbox to confirm your Publishing Target Name selection, and a drop-down "Advanced" menu becomes available. Within this menu, the "Publish metadata only" option can be found.
To proceed, check the checkbox labeled "Publish metadata only" within the Advanced menu and check one last box to verify the selection. Note that no media will be republished when you select this option.
Once you have checked the Publish Metadata Only box, select Publish to submit your updates.
You will be presented with a Publication Summary to inform you of the status of your item progress. If you would like details of the status at the file level, "View Status" monitors the most recent publishing actions taken in the project including publishing, propagation, and upload information.
