Resource Type	no attribute	Resource Type	A specific resource type that reflects the nature or genre of the content of the resource. JSTOR automatically maps and rolls up each "Resource Type" value to the appropriate "Content Type" value. If no "Resource Type" is provided by collection contributor, JSTOR will assign the general type "Images" for the purpose of publishing the content. See JSTOR Resource Types for available values.
Title	no attribute	no label	The title of the item being described. If the item being described is part of a larger work or belongs to a series (i.e. is contained within something else), the Title should be the title at the level of granularity of the content item being described or cataloged (e.g. the title of the book if a book is being cataloged as a single item, or the title of an article if a single article within a serial issue is being cataloged as an item).
Alternate Title	no attribute	Alternate Title	Translated title or alternate title of the entity being described.
Sequence Number	no attribute	no label	Number used to sort items in the display in a logical manner as decided by the cataloger. The sequence number itself will not display. It is only used to order related items cataloged separately (e.g. articles within an issue or pages within an illuminated manuscript linked by a container). Note: This field may be cataloged but corresponding functionality on JSTOR is currently limited to items within containers.
Contributor	author	Author	A named entity (person or corporate body) responsible for authoring, creating, or otherwise making contributions to the content of the resource, such as an author, editor, translator, artist, photographer, etc. The contributor’s role in relation to the work being described can also entered here, e.g. “Translated by”. Dates	display_date	Date	The date of the item expressed as text, i.e., a single string of letters, numbers, and/or special characters, intended for display.
Dates	earliest_date	no label	Not displayed, used for filtering and sorting functionality.
Dates	image_date	Image Date	The date an image was captured, photographed, or digitized (as opposed to the creation date of the work depicted in the image). If the image/photograph itself is the work, record its creation date in "display_date".

Dates	temporal_coverage	Temporal Coverage	The temporal topic of the resource, the temporal applicability of the resource, or the time span under which the resource is relevant. Temporal topic and temporal applicability may be a named time period, a range in dates, or a time-based event. Not the publication date.
Precise Date	no attribute	no label	The date of the item expressed in numeric, machine-readable values (YYYY-MM-DD), which enables functionality such as sorting, searching, placement in a timeline, etc.
Volume	no attribute	Volume	The volume number of a publication.
Issue Number	no attribute	Issue	The issue number of a publication.
First Page	no attribute	First Page	The first page number of an item that has pages and is paginated.
Last Page	no attribute	Last Page	The last page number of an item that has pages and is paginated.
Page Range	no attribute	Page Range	The starting and ending page numbers for an item that has non-contiguous page ranges or pages belonging to more than one pagination sequence.
Bidirectional Category	no attribute	no label	The direction in which a language is written and read, e.g. Hebrew is written/read right-to-left. Used to enable the appropriate display of metadata and functionality of the user interface.
Edition	no attribute	Edition	A word or phrase that indicates a difference in either content or form between the resource and a related resource, such as “Revised Second Edition”. Most often appears in books.
Series Designation	no attribute	Series Designation	A name and/or number designation that differentiates numbering sequences when the numbering starts over within a single serial, such as “New Series” or “Third Series”.
Publisher	no attribute	Publisher	Name of the person, company, or other entity that published a work.
Description	no attribute	Description	An account of the content of the resource. Not to be used for an abstract.
Abstract	no attribute	Abstract	A summary of the contents of a book, article, document, etc.
Language	no attribute	Language	The language(s) of the resource. Multiple values are allowed.
License	no attribute	License	The terms under which the digital object may be used by others. Currently, only predefined values from the "License" controlled list for Creative Commons license statements will be displayed on JSTOR. For local or unique licenses, catalogers may add new terms to the list, but these will not be published on the item page. The "Rights Notes" field may be used to apply custom license information at the item level for display on JSTOR.
Rights	no attribute	Rights	The copyright status of the digital object. Currently, only predefined values from the "Rights" controlled list for RightsStatements.org rights statements will be displayed on JSTOR. For local or unique licenses, catalogers may add new terms to the list, but these will not be published on the item page. The "Rights Notes" field may be used to apply custom rights information at the item level for display on JSTOR.
Rights Notes	no attribute	Rights Notes	Any additional rights/license information, such as contact information for uses beyond those permitted in the license.
Holding Institution	no attribute	Holding Institution	The name of the institution, college, or university, that provided the source copy that is digitized and published on JSTOR. This field may only apply when a collection is contributed by a consortium of multiple institutions or for a piece of non-unique content that may exist and be held in multiple locations. For unique content, use the "Repository" field to indicate where the item is held. If the JSTOR collection is contributed by only one institution, then "Holding Institution" or "Repository" may be used, regardless of the uniqueness of the content.
Subject	no attribute	Subjects	Terms that identify, describe, and/or interpret what is depicted in and by the work or item.
Physical Attributes	duration	Duration	The length of time that the resource lasts.
Physical Attributes	extent	Extent	The size or duration of the resource. Note on preferred usage for duration metadata: Use "Extent" if the data contains duration in addition to other extent information; use "Duration" if the data consists of duration only.

Location	spatial_coverage	Spatial Coverage	The spatial topic of the resource, the spatial applicability of the resource, or the jurisdiction under which the resource is relevant. Spatial topic and spatial applicability may be a named place or a location specified by its geographic coordinates.
Browse Categories	no attribute	no label	Contributors may choose fields to function as browse categories for the Classification and/or Geography facets within a collection. A field mapped to this target must be a controlled list field. See Adding browse categories.
Compilations	no attribute	no label	Global list to which contributors can add local values. The categorical, thematic, or descriptive group that compiles the item into a larger sub-collection on the published environment. See JSTOR Compilations and Containers.
Container	no attribute	no label	Container describes the larger work or hierarchical organization that contains the item. Examples: the title of a book when individual chapters are the items being described; the title of a periodical when individual issues or articles are being described; the series, box, and/or folder hierarchy in an archival collection.
