On this page:
In order for your project fields to display on JSTOR, they'll need to be mapped to default fields or custom fields in your publishing target. Any fields that aren't mapped won't appear when published.
When creating a new target, JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services will suggest mappings that you can save. See also Recommended field mappings for publishing to JSTOR.
Managing field mappings
To map your project fields:
- In your project, select Project Settings.
- Under the Targets tab, select a publishing target to map and select Map Project Fields.
- For each of field in the Project Fields column, use the link button in the JSTOR Fields column to map or re-map your field to a field on JSTOR.
- Select Use custom field label to map to a Custom Field.
- You can map multiple project fields to the same JSTOR field.
- If applicable, select an available attribute using the drop-down menu in the Attribute column to configure the field display label.
- For example: The "Contributor" target field with the attribute "Photographer" applied will display as "Photographer" on the item page when published.
- See JSTOR fields and attributes for available attributes.
- Configure any required fields as needed.
- Repeat until all desired fields are mapped for publishing.
- Select Save to save changes to your project's field mappings.
Customizing display labels on JSTOR
Though project field labels within JSTOR Stewardship can be customized, it's not currently possible to customize the display labels of the default fields on JSTOR when published.
You can, however, apply available attributes to certain fields (see above) or select Use custom field label when mapping to map fields to Custom Fields.
Custom fields
Project fields that don't have an appropriate JSTOR target field but should be displayed on the item page can be mapped to a custom field by selecting Use custom field label when mapping.
Custom fields are searchable (including variants of linked vocabularies) and the display label when published to JSTOR will use the field's label in JSTOR Stewardship.
Ordering custom fields
Custom fields are displayed as a group after JSTOR metadata fields on the item page but you can define the order in which they appear in the group.
When mapping or re-mapping fields in your publishing target:
- Select the link button beside your custom field.
- Use the Order drop-down to select a position number for the field.
- Selecting a position number that's already assigned to another field will automatically reorder the remaining custom fields.
- You can refer to the Order column in the target mapping screen to see the current position number of all custom fields.
- Select Update to save changes to the field.
- Repeat until all desired custom fields are ordered.
- Select Save to save changes to your project's field mappings.
- Re-publish your content to update the field order on JSTOR.
