Setting and cataloging with a Master Record allows you to easily copy all field data from one record and paste that data into one or more records. Master Records can be set or cleared from the item panel, and set, unset, pasted, or viewed from the edit tab. If a record is set as the Master Record then a red star will display in the item panel and edit tab. Pasting from a Master Record does not work across projects and there may be only one Master Record set at a time.
Set a Master Record
From the item panel, select the record you would like to establish as Master and copy the data from, then select Set as Master Record from the Actions Bar that will appear at the top of your project.
You can set the Master record from the edit tab by selecting the Options button and selecting Set Master. If you are editing records in batch and would like to set one as the Master, select the thumbnail from the list in the right and select the Options button and select Set Master. The Master Record is indicated by a red star and the word "Master" over the thumbnail.
Paste from a Master Record
Whether cataloging single or multiple items in the edit tab, select the Options menu and select Paste from Master. This will paste all values from the Master Record, including links and list terms. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+E or Command+E for Mac.
To paste select field values from the Master Record:
Whether cataloging single or multiple items in the edit tab, place your cursor in the intended field and use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+D or Command+D for Mac to paste one field at a time. When pasting data into a list field, place your cursor in the empty space beside the list icon. The cursor will disappear, but the keyboard shortcut of control + D (command + D for Mac) will work.
View a Master Record
Whether cataloging single or multiple items in the edit tab, if a record is set as Master, you can view that record in a new edit tab by selecting the Options button and selecting View Master Record. The record will be indicated as Master by a red star.
